MILESTONES (1988-2026)
1988
The Planters Welfare Association was founded in June 1988 by Channi Uppal and few likeminded ex planters . The first Executive Committee consisted of Messer Suresh Thukral, Late Tilak Sehgal, Channi Uppal, Arun Khanna, Late Johnny Awasthi, Capt. D.P.N. Singh (Retd), Late Vijay Sahni & Late N.K. Sawhney P.W.A. was registered under the societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. Serial NBR S/1900 3 of 01/06/1988 by Registrar of Societies Delhi. Suitable M.O.A. was drawn up. Membership drive resulted in with 75 members by end of the year. The Registered office of the Association address, D -847, New Friends Colony, New Delhi, was the residence of Mr. C.K. Uppal.
1989
Courtesy an architect, friend of Mr. Uppal’s, a proper plan was drawn up for a complete housing society for P.W.A . Simultaneous approach was made to DDA for allocation of suitable land. Petitionwas sent to Lt. Governor Delhi – courtesy Late Eric Singh. Executive Committee met Lt. Governor RomeshBhandari. Result was negative due to lack of funds and I.T. Clearance. PWA publishes its first News Letter.
1990
The First Members Directory was published in the year 1991 . It was compiled byChanniUppal and was sponsored by RangaBedi P.W.A sub- Committee shortlisted builders (Unitech) to come up with a formulae to provide a block of flats/houses for PWA members. A proper estimate was circulated to members/ (at the time over 200) with housing loans etc organized. An exhibition was held at Calcutta at Taj Bengal. As a result about 82 members volunteered funds, but did not pay at the time of booking, hence the project had to be dropped.
1991
P.W.A. steadily increases Membership& gets Tea Companies interested & involved.
1992
Membership drive was accelerated. P.W.A adopted a child at S.O.S children Villages,Bhimtal, as part of our charity concept. Used clothes etc donated to agencies like Cheshire homes
1993
Membership drive continued.
1994
Additional number of members joined the Association.The AGM- 1994 was sponsored by M/s Assam Frontier Tea Co Ltd.
1995
Membership drive continued and desired results were achieved.The AGM 1995 was held at Malcha House.
1996
Membership drive collects momentum and enrolment of additional members were made.The AGM 1996 was held at Delhi Gymkhana Club.
1997
P.W.A goes hitech! Acquires an e-mail (pwa@vsnl.com) & Website (www.plantersassociation.com) was launched courtesy BobbieJamwal ,NeerajRaina. &RoopyPatney .Network was tied up with Koi Hai.The AGM 1997 was sponsored by M/sWilliamson Magor& Co Ltd..
1998
AGM- 1998 was sponsored by M/s Tata Tea Ltd.
1999
AGM-1999 was sponsored by M/s Williamson Magor& Co Ltd.
2000
Second edition of Members Directory – 2000was updated and was sponsored by our Patron ( PWA) ,Mr. AshutoshDayal Sharma of M/s Quest VentureCoordinators Private Limited, New Delhi.AGM – 2000 sponsored by M/s Assam Frontier Tea Co Ltd.
2001
2nd Child adopted by PWA (Girl) at SOS Children’s Village, Bhimtal.
2002
PWA introduced the Golf Tournament as an additional annual activity.
The Quest Cup and its replica (running trophy) were presented by our Patron Mr. A.D. Sharma for the Men’s Golf Event.
The AGM 2002 was held at New Friends Colony.
Generous donations for the AGM were received from Capt. V.K. Mehra, V. Lall, H.N. Chopra and T.R. Sahgal.
2003
Mrs. Asha Sahgal presented the Asha Sahgal Trophy and a replica for the Ladies Golf Event.
The AGM 2003 was sponsored by Eveready Industries India Ltd.
2004
Mr. Tilak Raj Sehgal presented the Wooden Spoon Trophy for the PWA Golf Tournament.
The AGM 2004 was sponsored by Goodricke Group Ltd.
2005
The Association made a donation towards relief for the Tsunami victims.
A total of 10 Social Events were held during the year.
The AGM 2005 was sponsored by Assam Frontier Tea Co. Ltd.
2006
A total of 7 Social Events were organised during the year.
The AGM 2006 was held at New Friends Club, Mathura Road, New Delhi.
As no sponsors were available, generous contributions towards AGM expenses were made by Mr. S. Maini, V. Lall, Capt. V.K. Mehra, H.N. Chopra and T.R. Sehgal.
The registered office of the Association was shifted to C-2, West End, New Delhi – 110021, the residence of Mr. S. Maini.
2007
A total of 7 Social Events were held during the year.
Mr. Saran Singh presented a trophy for the Golf Tournament.
Golf sponsorship was received from Mr. Sunil Khanna (Toro & Co.) and Mr. A.D. Sharma.
The Association continued sponsoring the education of two children at SOS Children’s Village, Bhimtal.
The AGM 2007 was sponsored by Williamson Magor & Co. Ltd.
2008
A total of 7 Social Events were organised during the year.
The AGM 2008 was sponsored by PWA.
2009
A total of 7 Social Events were held during the year.
Lt. Gen. K.K. Nanda (Retd.) presented a trophy for the Senior Citizen Golfers.
The AGM 2009 was held at the Lagoon Club, Gurgaon, as a paid event.
Mrs. Kamala Kapahi Trophy – I was presented by the mother-in-law of Mr. V. Lall for the PWA Golf Tournament.
The 4th Updated Members Directory (2009) was published with sponsorship from various Tea Companies and other organizations.
Special thanks were extended to Mr. H.N. Chopra, K.N. Chaurasia, S. Maini, B. Chhabra and Roopy Patney for their valuable assistance.
2010
Mrs. Asha Sahgal presented the Asha Sahgal Trophy and a replica for the Ladies Golf Event.
The AGM 2003 was sponsored by Eveready Industries India Ltd.
2010
A total of 6 Social Events were held during the year.
Mrs. Kamala Kapahi Trophy – II was presented by the mother-in-law of Mr. V. Lall for the PWA Golf Tournament.
The AGM 2010 was sponsored by Goodricke Group Ltd.
The registered office of the Association was shifted from C-2, West End, New Delhi to D-247, Defence Colony (First Floor), New Delhi – 110024, the residence of Mr. B. Chhabra.
The Association was re-registered as an Association of Mutual Benefit in accordance with the applicable regulations.
A healthcare partnership was established with Artemis Medicare Services Ltd., Gurgaon, enabling members to avail medical services at discounted rates. Health cards were distributed to members.
2011
A total of 7 Members’ Meetings (Social Events) were held during the year.
Mr. S. Maini presented a new Running Trophy for the PWA Golf Tournament.
The AGM 2011 was held at the Lagoon Club, Gurgaon.
Based on members’ suggestions, an additional annual event was approved and scheduled to commence from 2013.
The Association proudly welcomed a record number of children of existing members as full voting members. A total of 34 young members joined from different parts of the country.
2012
A total of 7 Members’ Meetings (Social Events) were held during the year.
The 5th Edition of the Members Directory (2012) was updated and published with sponsorship from various Tea Companies and other organizations.
Special appreciation was extended to Mr. H.N. Chopra, Sudhir Kapoor and Roopy Patney for their dedicated efforts.
The AGM 2012 was held at the Lagoon Club, Gurgaon.
2013
2013 marked a historic milestone as the Association celebrated its Silver Jubilee (25 Years).
The Silver Jubilee Celebration was held on 6 November 2013 at The Park Hotel, New Delhi, sponsored by our Patron Mrs. Shirin Paul, Chairperson Emeritus, Apeejay Surrendra Group.
The 6th Updated Members Directory (2014 Edition) was released during the year.
The Silver Jubilee AGM 2013 was held on 15 December 2013 at the Golf Links Community Centre, New Delhi.
The AGM was hosted by Mr. V. Lall and sponsored by McLeod Russel India Ltd.
2014
A total of 8 Events were successfully organised during the year.
All events were well attended, reflecting the growing participation and enthusiasm of the members.
2015
A total of 8 Events were organised during the year with excellent participation from members.
Attendance at the PWA Golf Tournament remained comparatively low during the year.
2016
A total of 8 Events were organised at various venues and were well attended by members.
Special efforts were made to increase participation in the PWA Golf Tournament as well as attendance for the post-event lunch; however, the desired improvement could not be achieved.
2017
A total of 8 Events were organised during the year.
It was decided that from the following year onwards, the Association would organise 7 Events annually.
The Members Directory 2017 was successfully published.
The Association expressed its sincere appreciation to Mr. V. Lall, Mr. B. Chhabra and Mr. Roopy Patney for their dedicated efforts in publishing the Directory.
Generous sponsorship and contributions were received from Goodricke Group, Tea Professionals, Cuckoos Knit Wear, McLeod Russel, Mohani Tea, Time Zone, Kapoor Lampshades, Apeejay Tea, Amalgamated Plantations, DLF City RWA, J. 2018
A total of 7 Events were successfully organised during the year and were well attended by members.
Participation in the PWA Golf Tournament remained comparatively low.
During the AGM for 2019–2020, Mrs. Dipika Nanjappa was elected as the President for the term 2020–2021.
She became the first woman President in the history of the Association’s elected Executive Committee—an important milestone for PWA.
2019
The PWA Golf Tournament 2020 was successfully held in February 2020.
However, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic, all remaining Association activities and events were suspended.
2020
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the AGM 2020 was conducted through E-mail Voting in March 2021.
All other Association activities remained suspended during the year.
2021
No Association events were held during the year due to the continued impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic and related restrictions.
2022
The AGM 2021 was held at the Delhi Gymkhana Club, New Delhi, in March 2022.
Members were delighted to meet each other again after a long break caused by the pandemic.
The event was sponsored by Mr. Sanjay Choudhary and Mr. Avijit Ganguly, with PWA serving as Co-Sponsor.
A total of 5 Events were organised during August, September, November and December (including AGM 2022).
The Association recorded a record 24 new memberships during the 2022–2023 membership year.
2023
Three events were organised during January, February and April 2023.
A total of 7 Events were successfully held during 2023–2024, with excellent participation and enthusiastic support from members.
The Association expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. & Mrs. N. Sayal for generously hosting an event at their residence for the second consecutive year (2023 & 2024).
The Association also continued to record strong membership growth, with 24 new members enrolled during the membership period.
2024
A total of 7 Events were successfully organised during 2024–2025, with excellent attendance and overwhelming appreciation from members.
The Association extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. & Mrs. N. Sayal for hosting an event at their residence for the third consecutive year, creating a unique milestone in the Association’s history.
Additional members joined the Association during 2024–2025, reflecting the continued growth and strength of the PWA community.
2025
During the year 2025 , six events were arranged . The September 2025 event to be held at DSOI , Gurgaon, in the month of September 2025 could not take place since the minimum required attendees were not available , hence the event had to be cancelled . In this context we wish to convey out thanks and gratitude to Mr. & Mrs N.Sayal who had sponsored three consecutive Events at their residence .
We also would like to record our thanks and gratitude to Mr.& Mrs P.S Tibb for arranging events at their residence for the last 15 odd years
Due to unavoidable circumstances both the above mentioned members are unable to arrange the event during the year 2026 and the following years.
